/Movies and Video PR News/ - TEMECULA, CA, June 29, 2005 --- The Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival (TVIFF) has been growing every year bringing filmmakers and musicians from all over the world to recognize all Temecula has to offer. Slated for September 14-22nd, 2005 celebrating a four day expansion from years past at The Movie Experience at Tower Plaza (25735 Ynez Road), this new nine-day event is proud to announce exciting news regarding the Gala Night (September 17th, 2005 at Pechanga Resort and Casino), announcing The American Film Institute (AFI) will be saluted with a special tribute as the festival is proud to announce its inaugural Distinguished Institution Award. AFI will be honored for its significant role and remarkable contributions to the celebration and recognition of the art of American Film and Television. AFI Director/CEO, Jean Picker Firstenberg will be accepting. Leonard Maltin is the first individual announced as TVIFF's Outstanding Career Achievement Honoree for his significant contributions to film as historian, critic and author.
"I feel very fortunate to make a living pursuing my lifelong love affair with movies; to receive an award for that is humbling, and very, very gratifying," states Leonard Maltin, who is perhaps best known for his annual paperback reference, Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide, which was first published in 1969 and as a regular commentator and interviewer on television's Entertainment Tonight and for three years co-hosted the weekly movie review show, "Hot Ticket.." Maltin, the extreme multi-hyphenate additionally has a daily radio feature, Leonard Maltin's Video View, airs on KNX in Los Angeles, and he appears on the Starz cable TV network. He teaches at the University of Southern California, and was a member of the faculty at the New School for Social Research in New York City, publishes a quarterly newsletter for old-movie buffs, Leonard Maltin's Movie Crazy, and maintains a website, www.leonardmaltin.com His lengthy list of published works as an author and journalist need a library of their own - which include: Leonard Maltin's Family Film Guide, Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia, The Great American Broadcast, just to name a few!
American Film Institute (AFI) is being honored this year at TVIFF with the inaugural Distinguished Institution Award. Presenting unique film showcases at the festival for the past four years, this year AFI will continue the tradition of offering this year's best AFI filmmakers showcase during the festival screenings. In addition, AFI will be honored in a special tribute with an award of acknowledgement for being an innovative organization, with thirty-eight years of dedication as a national institute providing leadership in screen education and the recognition and celebration of excellence in the art of film, television and digital media. These are just a few of the achievements TVIFF salutes at this year's gala with the prestigious honors and tribute. "AFI is honored to have been selected as the recipient of the inaugural Distinguished Institution Award. In the 38 years since it was established, AFI is proud to recognize and celebrate the artists and the art of the moving image in all of its forms" states Jean Picker Firstenberg, Director and CEO, AFI. Other honorees for the 2005 Gala in the categories of Producer, Actor, Director and Music will be announced shortly. In years past honorees have included such legendary talent as the late Ray Charles, Karl Malden, Robert Wise, Carl Reiner, Etta James, Shirley Jones and honorees such as John Spencer, Michael York and last year, Louis Gossett, Jr. and Lou Rawls.
The festival's social calendar starts with Opening Night Festivities, followed by daily and nightly filmmaker/musician receptions, industry workshops, a Lifetime and Career Achievement Awards Black Tie Gala, a Sunday morning Hot Air Balloon Ride, a Closing Night Wrap party and Best of Fest special screening presentations and much more.
The 11th Annual Temecula Valley International Film and Music Festival runs Sept. 14-Sept. 22, 2005 at the Movie Experience Theaters at Tower Plaza Center and is presented by Cinema Entertainment Alliance, a nonprofit arts and education organization dedicated to celebrating world cinema and music.
