Jump In! Writer Leaps onto Next Project

/Movies and Video PR News/ - February 18, 2007 - Disney Channel's Jump In! became the channel's highest rated original movie of all time. It made stars not only out of the actors in the film but also the genius writers that shaped the story.

Doreen Spicer, the original Jump In! writer has become high in demand for producers looking for edgy, ethnic emotional roller coasters with that mainstream appeal.

"My phone is ringing off the hook," Spicer laments. Yet rather than accept the first offer on the table Spicer has set her eye on not only writing but producing projects as well.

One of her first projects is teaming with new novelist, Jeff Rivera on the film adaption of his Latino-themed story, Forever My Lady. This forthcoming Warner Books title is set to be released this July and has already created a buzz in the Latino community.

Forever My Lady tells the award-winning story of a Latino juvenile delinquent who is stuck in prison boot camp. Everyone has given up on him, sadly, even his own mother. The only person that sticks by his side is the love of his life, his childhood sweetheart, Jennifer. He promises her he will turn his life around this time; that when he gets out they can get married and have children and finally make a real future together. But when he gets out of boot camp he discoveres that she is getting ready to marry someone else.

Half-Latina herself, Spicer feels it is about time to break down the industry confusion of how to handle Latino films. She chose Rivera's Forever My Lady as her first Latino feature film adaption because she says it is a "universal story that has to be told."

She looks to collaborating with another production company on finally bringing the story to the big screen.

The story behind the story is even more facinating. Author Jeff Rivera began writing Forever My Lady ten years ago just after he was homeless living in his car. He held on to the story and didn't give up despite rejection after rejection and finally decided to self-publish the book. With only $200 to his name, Rivera began printing the book and building an audience on the web. Word spread and his audience grew into the thousands.

When literary agent Jenoyne Adams from the Levine Greenberg Agency got wind of his story, she immediately signed Rivera and sold Forever My Lady to Warner Books within 7 days.

Warner Books will be releasing the book
