In director Anthony Henslee's Western "Palo Pinto Gold", a Texas Ranger teams up with the son of his murdered partner to track down a renegade Ranger who has taken over the town of Palo Pinto. The film was co-written and produced by Henslee and Steve Schmidt (owner of Enchanted Springs Ranch); Henslee also stars with Joanna Goode and Country/Western stars Trent Willmon, Roy Clark, and Mel Tillis. The film includes special appearances by Kinky Friedman, Robert Earl Keen, retired Texas Ranger H. Joaquin Jackson, former Dallas Cowboy Jay Novacek, and many more.
An official selection of the Trail Dance Film Festival (to be held in Duncan, Oklahoma on January 16-18), the film has been nominated for five awards, including Best Director and Best Western Film.
"Palo Pinto Gold" was shot at Enchanted Springs Ranch, a working Western film set that includes an authentic town with over 40 buildings, and a Wild Animal Park featuring Longhorn cattle, zebras, antelope, elk, emu, llamas, and even buffalo; its nearly 90 acres can double as a variety of shooting locations. Since it opened in 2004, the ranch has become the location of choice for a number of feature films, television programs, music videos, print advertising campaigns, corporate videos, and more.
Henslee says, "Making 'Palo Pinto Gold' was like going back to all the great Western movies and shows I used to watch when I was growing up, like 'Gunsmoke' and 'Stagecoach'. So I love having the opportunity to introduce that kind of story to a new generation."
