Cinelympics! 2009 Introduces the Screened Short Films
The country-based film battle between the United States and Japan "Cinelympics!" will take place in both coutries at the same day and time as a live through the Internet broadcast.
LOS ANGELES, CA, July 27, 2009 /Movies and Video PR News/ -- Cinelympics! will be held at Downtown Independent in Los Angeles on August 1st. The short films from the United States and Japan will be screened for each genre (5 genres total), and the professional juries and the randomly selected 100 audience will vote and decide a winning film.
The United States:
//Love Romance//
GROWING Up VEGAS-Directed by Amber Beard. Taylor, an isolated, withdrawn tomboy hangs out at the casino where her single mom, Lizzy, works as a cocktail waitress. There, Taylor meets Tony, a lovable, washed-up Elvis Impersonator who takes her under his wing, offering to tutor Taylor in math - a subject she's failing miserably. As their relationship progresses, Taylor develops an unhealthy infatuation with Tony. But what are Tony's true intentions? Is he using Taylor to get to her mom, whom he is secretly smitten with?

VIOLA: The Traveling Rooms of a Little Giant - Directed by Shing-Ting Hung. On a stumble on slippery moss at the 4 o'clock bus stop, Seven-year-old Viola, trying to discover the world, puts solitude in her suitcase and begins her dreamy journey.

DRUNKEN BATON - Directed by Kenichi Omori. Michiko wakes up in a riverside embracing a bottle of sake, the morning after a drinking party with her theater company fellows. Suddenly, a guy called Hara, who Michiko was in loved with when in secondary school, appears in running clothes. Michiko starts to run as fast as she cans trying to cath him up and express her past feelings to him.
A love comedy portraiting a woman in her 30s from a gentle perspective.

THE FLOWER IN THE PANTIES - Directed by Sasaguri Harui. Mitsuki is a girl in highschool who still haven't gotten her period. Sachiko, got it for the first time. Kana, is confused after an unexpected pregnancy.

SCARY FATHER IN LAW (KOETOTCHA) - Directed by Makoto Numazawa. Kenji and Sayuri start to think about marriage after being in a relation for a while. Kenji decides to introduce himself to Sayuri's father, who by chance came from Akita to see her daughter. However, after meeting him things get completely weird...

KOUJIN MOUNTAIN - Directed by Seiji Himejima. As a big construction company called Hiyama was building a Hotel in Koujin mountain, there happened many fatal accidentes. After rumours spread there were no contractors wanting to keep the construction, and it was stopped. That was how Muramatsu, a construction company near bakruptcy, was chosen for the job. Its owner Sadajiro Muramatsu jumped at the big job offer he just got. And then, 7 brave workers are gathered to remove the small shrine at Koujin mountain...

THE SHOGI HOUR - Directed by Jun Aoki. A parody of a certain Shogi tv show by a certain tv station. A really eccentric theme with eccentric Shogi players. The film recreates those peculiar "moments" only seen in that Shogi tv show.
