University of Texas Alum embarks on first feature film project in Austin
Director and writer, Kai Salim, launches an 80-minute feature film, The Cost of Living
FORT WORTH, TX, August 14, 2010 /Movies and Video PR News/ -- Kai Salim and his production team of Austinites recently embarked on the development of an 80-minute feature film project titled, The Cost of Living, set to start production in the summer of 2011.
The story revolves around a single question: Life has a price tag ... can you afford to pay it? That's the problem a young woman on the verge of her dreams must solve when faced with debt, possible pregnancy, and an artist boyfriend being pushed into Foreign Service via the military. The story presents a theme about an individual struggling with their moral standing in regards to sexuality and socioeconomic state.
The Austin Film Society, a non-profit organization that supports Texas based productions, has agreed to sponsor the film and given financial support in the form of a grant. As a non-profit, the organization is able to accept tax-deductible donations on behalf of projects under its umbrella. The Austin Film Society has contributed a portion of its website to The Cost of Living film project where donations can be made directly at thecostoflivingmovie.com. The City of Austin is also a sponsor of the film and has provided development funds which have allowed the production team to film locally.
Kai Salim:
Kai Salim was honored with the Randy Kelleher Endowed Scholarship in film while attending the University of Texas at Austin Radio, Television and Film Program. Salim also attended the University of Texas Film Institute Conservatory, a professional and educational workshop for writers, directors and producers. His most recent work includes several short films that have been distributed internationally and projects with HBO.
