Deratany's "Haram Iran" nominated for GLAAD's prestigious theater award; Glee, Lisa Kron, Sarah Ruhl, Jonathan Tolins, et al. among GLAAD Media Award nominees.
LEDGEWOOD, NJ, January 23, 2011 /Movies and Video PR News/ -- The GLAAD Media Award nominations have been announced for the 22nd annual awards ceremonies. These prestigious awards recognize excellence on a national level, in a wide variety of entertainment and journalism categories, including theater in both New York and Los Angeles.

"The nominations for Outstanding Los Angeles Theater are Dr. Cerberus by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Haram Iran by Jay Paul Deratany, Revolver by Chris Phillips, Something Happened by L. Trey Wilson, and The Twentieth-Century Way by Tom Jacobson.
"In the television categories, Fox's Glee, along with Greek, Modern Family, Nurse Jackie, and United States of Tara have been nominated as Outstanding Comedy Series. The movies Burlesque, Easy A, The Girl Who Played With Fire, The Kids Are All Right, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World have been nominated as Outstanding Film - Wide Release."
Jay Paul Deratany's Haram Iran is a gay and human rights play, about two youth charged with the crime of homosexuality in modern Tehran, and slated for execution by hanging.
The play has received global praise, and has been performed in Chicago and Los Angeles.
A London production is planned for 2011-12, and a local prominent gay advocate is closely involved in the pending production.
Jay Paul Deratany is a high profile Chicago personal injury attorney who has won multi-million dollar awards for his clients, which have been among the highest in Cook County history. He is also a human rights and gay rights advocate, and playwright of "Haram Iran".
